50 WAYS TO PROMOTE MEMBERSHIP

 

 

1.       Develop and publish a Chapter membership roster

2.       Divide membership roster and call members—call one person per month

3.       Have a meal every other meeting

4.       Have educational opportunities at every other meeting

5.       Institute and support (including financially) a Chapter Membership Committee/Program

6.       Have members provide entertainment

7.       Participate in community events

8.       Have regular activities with the local Masonic Lodge—Have a “prospect party”

9.       Hold a prospect session to come up with a list of prospects

10.  Send out invitations to meeting; to other Chapters, inactive members, new members

11.  Submit regular articles to local newspapers

12.  Arrange for members to visit “shut in” members

13.  Do something nice for your Masonic Lodge building

14.  Call members who haven’t come out for awhile to help with events, refreshments, etc.

15.  Have an open installation—invite friends, co-workers, etc.

16.  Arrange for a Masonic speaker to address local ministerial group

17.  Abbreviate some meetings to make time for some fun

18.  Ask a different member to serve as Prompter at each meeting

19.  Send greeting cards to shut-ins or out-of-town members

20.  Set up a ride committee

21.  Haven an official greeter or hostess—different at each meeting

22.  Have a family dinner evening

23.  Arrange for baby sitting

24.  Invite youth groups (Masonic or community) to make a presentation at a meeting

25.  Establish a telephone committee

26.  Have a regular Chapter newsletter or participate in Masonic newsletter

27.  Have Officer Handbook explaining duties and expectations

28.  Have theme nights for meetings

 

 

29.  Plan a bus trip or mystery trip

30.  Plan outside social events—ball game, theater, community event

31.  Participate in Grand Chapter as a group

32.  Participate as a Chapter in a meeting of a sister Chapter

33.  Provide petitions for each member to carry

34.  Wear name tags at your meetings

35.  Institute a new member orientation program

36.  Have “secret pal” program with Masons or youth group

37.  Order Eastern Star brochures so they are available to your members

38.  Talk with your members about what Eastern Star means to them

39.  Contact other Eastern Star members who live in your area

40.  Hold children’s party for community at holiday time

41.  Have a food booth, float, or information booth at community events

42.  Ask your members to bring a friend to an activity

43.  Call or send a note to members when they miss a meeting telling them they were missed

44.  Make a pledge to ask someone to join Eastern Star

45.  Get involved. Volunteer in your own Chapter.  Offer to chair a committee, provide

       refreshments

46.  Be supporting and encouraging.  Be willing to try something new instead of finding fault

47.  Keep going—don’t give up

48.  Send letters to prospective members or inactive members

49.  Visit other fraternal organizations on their open meetings

50.  Plan a joint fundraiser with your local Masonic Lodge
