                             "MEMBERSHIP - District Newsletter"

Membership/District Newsletter

The members of the Order of the Eastern Star are the most valuable assets of the Order.  Everyone is important and needs to know and feel that they are needed. Whether you are a WGM, WGP, PGM, PGP, Grand Officer, District Deputy, Grand Chapter Committee Member, Grand Representative, WM, WP, PM, PP, Subordinate Chapter Officer or a Sideliner, we need each and every one of you. Some people may be more comfortable making refreshments, preparing the vouchers, decorating the Chapter room or dining room, or organizing entertainment. Each is a task that can make a meeting more enjoyable for all in attendance. When people enjoy something and feel there is a need for them, they will attend meetings and planned activities.

Many Chapters have started sending Newsletters to their members and are receiving a favorable response for their efforts. District 10 went a step further. They have an email form of a brief Newsletter that sends out notices regarding upcoming activities within the District as well as news about the health of members. When someone goes into the hospital or passes away, this can be the quickest way of getting the information out to everyone. While not everyone has email, I can guarantee that there is at least one person from each Chapter who does, and he/she can then share the information being sent to others from the Chapter. Some people would be concerned about giving out their personal email addresses or receiving a number of forwarded email messages. This can be an issue if not addressed up front. So announce the ground rules from the start, explaining the intent for this method of communicating and the types of messages that would be shared. Find a person that is willing to take on the challenge of managing the information for your District. If you want to receive the information, you send your email address to that person. Your address is then added to a group address book, and each email address in the group receives the messages sent.  However, when the message arrives it does not display all of the addresses to which the message was distributed.  Thus, your email address is not passed on to others.  In addition, whether you personally have email or not, if you have news that you need to get out to the District, all you have to do is to get the information to the news person, and he/she will send it electronically to all that have requested to receive the news messages.
